Beggar's Pay

Beggar's Pay is a Grateful Dead tribute formed in 2023 in Pleasantville, New Jersey by Mike Coyne, Starr Coyne and Kenny Quinones, several of them out of the NJ band Chinacat Jubilee. The core is Mike Coyne on bass, Starr Coyne on vocals, Kenny Quinones on drums, Gianni Iacovino on rhythm guitar and Gabriel Mark Lipko on keyboards. Their defining wrinkle is that they carry no fixed lead guitarist and instead rotate a bench of Jersey players through the slot — Mark Diomede of Juggling Suns and Be5D, Pete Tonti of One Eyed Jack, Vince Merlino of The Notion, Chris Waddell of Chinacat Jubilee and Mark Kapel of Gratefulmen — so the lineup changes show to show. Mike Coyne has played the New Jersey jam scene for over two decades and previously worked with Dead Reckoning. They play both full electric and acoustic Dead sets, working South Jersey, the Shore and Bucks County rooms including Buckalew's Tavern on Long Beach Island and Dharma Bums.
