Electric Waste Band

San Diego, CA · formed 1989

Not yet rated

Electric Waste Band formed in San Diego in 1989 and began its Monday night residency at Winstons Beach Club in Ocean Beach on February 3, 1992 — by most accounts the longest-running nightclub residency in San Diego, past its 1,500th Monday show. The current lineup is Robert Harvey and Mark Fisher on guitars, Bob Rosencrans on bass, Eric Gabriel on keys, and Ed Fletcher and Danny Campbell on drums, all singing; the band runs democratically with no bandleader and a deep bench of subs. They work a catalog of more than 150 Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia songs and are explicit about interpreting rather than replicating — improvisation is the point, and the same song rarely lands twice. Beyond Winstons they play OB Oktoberfest, the Skull & Roses festival in Ventura and other Southern California clubs; Bill Walton sat in on percussion with them for years, Karl Strauss brewed a limited 'Electric Waste' red IPA in 2019, and the band has multiple San Diego Music Award nominations plus a San Diego Music Hall of Fame induction.
