Glass Camels
Jacksonville, FL · formed 1989
Glass Camels have been playing Grateful Dead music out of Jacksonville since 1989 - by most local accounts North Florida's longest-running Dead band, with the byline 'Psychedelic Music made in the good ole USA since 1989.' Guitarist Dave Hendershott fronts the group, which plays either as a 'core four' or expanded to as many as seven players, mixing faithful Dead readings with originals. They were fixtures on the North Florida festival circuit, including years at Magnolia Fest and Suwannee Springfest at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, and have opened for acts including Vassar Clements, Col. Bruce Hampton, Merl Saunders, Donna the Buffalo and Peter Rowan. The band played a 35th-anniversary reunion show at Underbelly in Jacksonville in May 2024. Beyond Hendershott, the current lineup is not published anywhere findable.
