Legion of Mario

Legion of Mario is a Tucson, Arizona band fronted by guitarist and singer Mario Saravia, whose name puns on Garcia's mid-'70s group Legion of Mary. The lineup has included Oscar Laredo on keys, Mark Ryan on bass, Andy Briefer on drums and Tim Darko on percussion, with Doc Holladay on Hammond B-3 in earlier configurations. They play Garcia's originals alongside the Dylan, The Band and Motown covers he favored, in a loose, soul-leaning improvisational style. They hold a regular slot at The Hut and turn up at St. Philip's Plaza, La Rosa and Tucson Roadrunners Grateful Dead Night.
