Rock & Rye

Rock & Rye has been playing the Grateful Dead songbook in Chicago since 2014, built around improvisation, unusual song transitions and deep cuts. The lineup includes Matt Nagrodski on drums, Spencer Linn and Scott Moen on guitars, James Kreis on keys, Tommy Bradford on sax and Geoff Zabinski or Matt Puhr on bass. Sets pull from the Dead's originals and the covers they carried from Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash and the Beatles, and range from complete show recreations to acoustic dates billed as Half a Cup of Rock & Rye. Garcia's in Chicago is their home room.
