Sages & Spirits

Sages & Spirits is an all-star Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band project rather than a standing band, assembled from players with real Dead-family credentials: Melvin Seals (organ) from the Jerry Garcia Band, John Kadlecik (guitar) of Furthur and Melvin Seals' JGB, Rob Eaton (guitar) of Dark Star Orchestra, Rob Barraco (keys) of the Dead family, Jay Lane (drums) of Dead & Company and Primus, plus Skip Vangelas on bass and Jake Wolf on drums and percussion. It debuted on January 19-20, 2024 at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver as part of that venue's 21st-anniversary celebration and has returned there for further multi-night runs. The group has no single home base -- the members are scattered across the country and it convenes for specific runs. Its New York appearance is at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester on October 2, 2026, billed as "Sages & Spirits ft. members of JGB, Dark Star Orchestra, Furthur, Dead & Company."
