Wake the Dead has been weaving Irish jigs and reels through the songs of the Grateful Dead since 2000 — a Northern California septet good enough that the Dead's own label released its debut. Danny Carnahan, Kevin Carr, Sylvia Herold, Paul Kotapish, Valerie Rose, Cindy Browne, and Brian Rice play fiddles, uilleann pipes, mandolins, and guitar, and the band's annual Day of the Dead extravaganza at Freight & Salvage in Berkeley has run for twenty-five years.
