Joe Russo's Almost Dead

JRAD treats the catalog as raw material. Drummer Joe Russo leads Tom Hamilton, Scott Metzger, Marco Benevento, and Dave Dreiwitz, all drawn from Brooklyn's improvised-rock scene, and the arrangements deliberately depart from the originals: tempos shift, songs collide, a familiar tune arrives from an unrecognizable direction. The band is explicit that it is not a tribute act in the recreation sense. They return to the Rooftop at Pier 17 for two nights in September for the fourth year running, after opening the fall at MGM Music Hall at Fenway.
