Steely Dead — Dave Abear on guitar, Matt Abear on bass, Chris Sheldon on drums, and Dylan Teifer on keys — has spent seven years fusing two catalogs that should not fit together and do: Steely Dan's precision-built studio songs and the Grateful Dead's free-flowing improvisation and segues, often inside the same tune. The Denver band tours nationally, from the Capitol Theatre to Harlow's in Sacramento, and comes through the North Bay in October.
