Doug & Co. is Nantucket's Grateful Dead band, founded in 2024 by singer Doug Cote after nearly a decade fronting the island country band Buckle and Shake. Ben Champoux, who grew up on Nantucket listening to Garcia and saw his first Dead show at Foxboro in 1986, plays lead guitar; Brad Smith is on bass, Jamie Howarth, a Grammy-winning producer and twenty-five-year pianist at The Summer House, on keys, and Tyler Somes on drums. They rehearse harmonies at the Nantucket Community Music Center and balance faithful recreation with improvising off one another. Afternoons at Cisco Brewers and nights at the Chicken Box are the regular stops; they were on stage at Cisco when word of Bob Weir's passing reached the island.
