Wolfman Jack

Wolfman Jack is a New England project that plays nothing but "Primal Dead" -- the Grateful Dead from roughly 1965 to 1972, Live/Dead through Europe '72 -- in two full sets, explicitly as a dance band in the mold of the Fillmores, the Carousel and Avalon Ballrooms and Winterland. It is led by drummer Jack Betzen of Alstead, New Hampshire, with Brian Wood and Patrick Keaney on guitars, David Alderman on bass, Karl Reiders on piano and B3, and Sammy Flicker and CC Coughlin on vocals and harp. The band's base of operations is the southern Vermont / southwestern New Hampshire corner: it holds a Sunday winter residency at The Stone Church in Brattleboro, VT and plays NOVA Arts in Keene, NH regularly, often with a liquid light show projected behind them. It also tours out from there -- Nectar's and Zenbarn in Vermont, Lark Hall in Albany, Catskill Brewery in Livingston Manor, The Strand in Dover, NH, and Buffalo Iron Works in Buffalo, which is the New York date in this batch. Former lead guitarist Jason Ferguson died suddenly in November 2022 at 56.
