Skeleton Crew started as a Grateful Dead jam session among Laguna Beach locals and made its debut as a band on March 29, 2017 at the Marine Room Tavern in Laguna Beach, with founding frontman Bob 'Hollywood Bob' Campion alongside Orin Neufeld, Paul Brown, Casey Simpson, Dan Shapero and Paul Kaas — several of them also played together in the local bands The Kooks and the Blues Offenders. Campion died in April 2023 and the band carried on, now fronted by Santi Pierini on lead vocals and guitar with Neufeld on rhythm guitar, Geoff Glass on bass and Brown on drums, plus rotating guest keyboardists drawn from the Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego jam scenes. They lean on 1970s-era Dead and mix faithful readings of the classics with open jamming. Their regular rooms are almost all in Laguna Beach — The Cliff Restaurant, Laguna Beer Co., the Marine Room, the Sawdust Art Festival — with occasional larger dates at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano and Jam Fest OC in Laguna Hills.
