Jake's Leg started in 1976 as a guitar-and-vocal duo of Randy Furrer and Tim Fahy, added lead guitarist Dave Casper, then bassist Joe Trunko and keyboardist Bill Noltkamper in the early '90s and drummer Ryan Wilhite in 2005. Fifty years on, the band bills itself as the longest-running Grateful Dead tribute in the United States, and it is woven into St. Louis music life as much as into the Deadhead world. They headline the Pageant and Old Rock House and play regional amphitheaters, and Phish bassist Mike Gordon has sat in with them, most recently surprising the room on Jerry Garcia's birthday in 2024.
